Moving interstate checklist

Are you thinking about moving out of Sydney? Perhaps you are thinking about moving to Sydney! Either way, it is something that needs plenty of planning.

At John Bull, we are more than equipt to help you with this process and to make it as easy as possible.

Choose your removalist

The very first thing you should do is pick a removalist. This will ensure you can lock in your moving dates and get a good price.

Sort your belongings

Decide what is going, what is getting donated and what will be taken to the tip. This takes time, particularly if you are going to sell items.

Start packing

Get your supplies: We have these and more at our box shop

  • Packing tape

  • Packing boxes

  • Bubble wrap

  • Labels and marker pens

Anything that is non-essential should be packed first and clearly labelled by room. If you are dismantling furniture, take photos of the process and put the screws and bolts into a labelled bag attached to the frame.

Label every box and make sure to label the fragile ones 'FRAGILE', so the movers can take extra care.

If the packing is too much we can arrange that for you too, both packing and unpacking.

Sort your paperwork

Go to the post office and arrange redirection of your mail to your new address. Change your address online where you can. Pack and label your important paperwork so this isn't misplaced with the move.

Pack an overnight bag

For every family member, this is essential. By having a bag of everything you need for your immediate arrival you will be less stressed. Toothbrushes, toothpaste, toiletries, toilet paper, medication and other personal items. Include a few days worth of clothing

Valuables - Keep your very important documents and valuables with you
