Just one of the many aspects of moving house is moving your appliances. From fridges, washing machines, TV's and more, electrical goods in our home form quite a long list. All these appliances require different things when it comes to moving house.
It is always wise to double-check with us before your moving day as to how we would like your appliances prepared but here are some tips.
Manufacturer
Check with your manufacturer and see if your appliance has specific moving recommendations for the models you own. While this does not apply to everything you may have a specific appliance that you need to be able to advise our movers about.
Empty everything
Any appliances like fridges and ovens that have shelves and racks need to have these items removed so that they don't move about during transport. Remove the lint from your dryer, empty the vacuum and remove discs or games from the player.
Clean
Both the appliances you are taking with you and the ones you are leaving behind require a thorough cleaning. If you need to defrost your fridge or freezer this can take 48 hours so give yourself time. Make sure to drain any water pipes from your washing machine and dry completely. Your washing machine may also need to have its drum stabilised for the move so check and see if this is necessary with the manufacturer. Taping appliance doors shut with removable tape keeps everything safe and secure.
Disconnect
Everything that needs to be unplugged or disconnected, take photos. This is the easiest way to see how they used to be connected so you can reconnect them at your new property. Unplugging everything early and giving it a chance to cool down before the movers have to touch them keeps our movers safe too. When you disconnect and you have a photo, bag, label and put the remote with it, take another photo so you have a before and after image.
Hopefully, this helps as a reminder that preparation will make your move that much easier, cleaner and ultimately less stressful.
